The Martin MAC Aura Raven XIP is a new wash light in the MAC Aura family. It features four times the output of MAC Aura XIP and two times the output of the MAC Aura PXL.

The MAC Aura Raven features Martin’s XIP technology, making it suitable for outdoor use in any weather condition, with close to zero impact on size, weight and noise levels. So, it performs equally well in demanding indoor applications such as theater and broadcast, while at the same time being robust enough for brutal outdoor environments.

WHY MAC AURA RAVEN XIP?

  • It’s the big brother/sister in the MAC Aura family, so it has to be a MAC Aura.
  • We want to keep emphasizing that this is an outdoor-rated fixture, hence we keep “XIP” as part of the name.
  • A Raven is a large black and clever bird, referring to the dark lens design and other clever features.

BRIGHTEST “BUBBLE WASH” EVER

  • MAC Aura XIP: 6,000 lm
  • MAC Aura PXL: 10,500 lm
  • MAC Aura Raven XIP: 24,500 lm
  • (MAC Quantum Wash: 16,000 lm)

CLEAN WASH FIELD

  • Nice soft-edge wash.
  • No brown/blue edge to the field.
  • No visible hotspot.
  • Less straylight than any previous MAC Aura fixture.
  • Less lens-glare than any previous MAC Aura fixture.

ENGINE CONTROL

  • Calibrated CTC control (2000 K – 12,850 K in 50 K steps).
  • Calibrated Tint control (Δuv -0.05 – +0.05).
  • RGB channels mix colors around the white point set by CTC and Tint channels.
(alternatively a Direct RGBL mode is also available)
  • Fully (DMX) adjustable LED PWM frequency / refresh rate to get rid of flicker/banding in specific applications.

BETTER LUMEN MAINTENANCE THRU ZOOM RANGE

  • Competing fixtures often have less than 30% of their lumen left in narrow zoom.
  • The MAC Aura Raven XIP still has 18,000 lm in narrow, which is still 75% of the lumen output in wide.

BEAMSHAPER

  • Front of fixture features an “accessory-port” into which the optional BeamShaper module plugs.
  • Module creates an “oval” wash field:
    • Approx. 4x1 in narrow zoom
    • Approx. 2x1 in medium zoom
    • Approx. round in wide zoom
  • Module can index (via DMX) from – 180 deg till + 180 deg.
  • The BeamShaper module itself is NOT XIP rated (indoor only), but fixture remains protected at all times.

THIRD-PARTY BEAM CONTROL ACCESSORIES

  • The same 4 screw-holes which are used for SoftLens and BeamShaper can be used by third-party beam control accessories.
  • City Theatrical is already working on:
    • Top Hat
    • Hexcel Louver
    • Concentric Rings
  • Third-Party beam control accessories can be added on top of SoftLens or BeamShaper.

ERGONOMICS

  • Lower weight and smaller than most indoor-only competitors.
  • Lower weight and smaller than any outdoor-rated competitor.
  • Martin’s patented yoke-handles.
  • Omega bracket attachment pattern from MAC Viper XIP.

MAC AURA RAVEN XIP VS COMPETITORS

EFFECT VARIATION

  • By altering the zoom, the Aura backlight can create a variety of effects:
    • Zoom narrow: Homogeneous lit up lens
    • Zoom medium: Flower effect in mid-air
    • Zoom wide: Round “videowall”
  • Even when using Aura backlight with SoftLens or BeamShaper, interesting effects can be achieved
