The LP-UNF is a desktop speaker system designed to be used in small spaces where the ability to get loud is limited. The LP-UNF presents full-range audio at reference levels with plenty of headroom at about arm’s length.
The LP-UNF is a desktop speaker system designed to be used in small spaces where the ability to get loud is limited. The LP-UNF presents full-range audio at reference levels with plenty of headroom at about arm’s length.
The system is made up of a primary and secondary speaker, each with a 4.5-Inch high excursion woofer and 1-Inch dome tweeter. The LP-UNF features USB-C, TRS, RCA, and Bluetooth inputs for seamless integration into your deskscape. The LP-UNF uses much of the same technology as Kali’s best-selling LP-6 and LP-8 V2 speakers. A 3-D imaging waveguide is employed to create a detailed, lifelike stereo image where all of the elements of the mix can be clearly perceived in space. The large front-firing port tube uses a unique. fluid dynamics derived shape that eliminates port noise and compression. This allows you to place the speakers against walls without worrying about adverse effects on the port’s performance.
The USB-C input lets users who aren’t recording use the LP-UNF without a separate interface. You’ll enjoy pristine sound with 24-bit/48kHz conversion. This makes the LP-UNF an excellent choice for traveling setups or as a floating pair of speakers in dynamic recording situations. The LP-UNF is uniquely tuned for its role as a desktop speaker. The desk is accounted for as an acoustic element of the system, solving some of the problems that are typically presented with putting speakers on a desk. DIP switches are provided to account for the position of the system in a room, and for you to dial in bass and treble to your preferences.
The LP-UNF has boundary EQ settings for placing the speakers:
On stands
On a desk, away from walls,
On a desk, against a wall,
On a desk, on speaker stands, away from walls,
On a desk, on speaker stands, against a wall
On a recording desk with rack units, away from walls,
On a recoding desk with rack units, against a wall.
The LP-UNF is part of Kali’s 2nd Wave product family, utilizing low noise-floor technology, upgraded drivers, and an advanced limiter circuit to maximize output and fidelity while keeping noise to a minimum.
Features and Benefits
Full-range sound at reference level
The LP-UNF provides full-range audio at reference-level at .8 meters, or about arm’s length. This gives you a complete picture of your mix that allows you to make critical decisions and feel confident that your mix will translate to other systems. When listening, the LP-UNF provides engrossing, detailed sound that brings out every detail of the recording.
Benefits:
Detailed, accurate view of the mix
Excellent immersion in sonic landscape
Excellent translation to other systems
USB-C Input
The LP-UNF features a USB-C input which supports 24-bit resolution and up to 48kHz sample rate. Connect your computer, laptop, tablet, phone, or other USB-capable audio devices. iOS devices with a lightning connector will require Apple’s Camera Adapter Kit, sold separately.
Benefits:
Easy connection to computers, tablets, phones, gaming consoles, and other USB devices.
LP-UNF can be used without an external interface or DAC.
TRS and RCA Input
The LP-UNF offers TRS and RCA inputs, including gaming consoles, televisions, consumer electronics, and pro audio gear. Whatever you’re connecting to the LP-UNF, it has an appropriate input to support it!
Benefits:
Connect analog to Pro Audio devices with the TRS inputs.
Connect analog to many consumer devices with the RCA inputs
Bluetooth Input
The LP-UNF features Bluetooth 5.1, allowing you to connect your smartphone, computer, tablet, or other Bluetooth device to the LP-UNF. Bluetooth 5.1 supports CD-Quality or higher streaming from most output devices.
Benefits:
Wireless connection for convenient listening
3-D Imaging Waveguide
The 3-D Imaging Waveguide allows you to hear a 3-D soundstage from a stereo pair of speakers. By matching the shape of the waveguide to the interactions of the HF and LF drivers, this waveguide produces a stereo image that is wider, taller, and deeper than the space where the speakers are placed. The LP-UNF accomplishes this by ensuring that the speaker’s reflected sound matches its direct sound. Every time you hear a loudspeaker, you're hearing both the direct sound from the speaker, and reflections from the speaker's signal bouncing off of objects in the room.
When those reflections are congruent with the direct sound from the speaker, listeners perceive a better sound overall, and are able to make out very subtle details like where microphones are placed in a room. When done very well, the stereo image will be three-dimensional. This gives users a very high degree of confidence in their mix. It allows them to mix faster, and produce better mixes overall.
Benefits:
Hear a 3-D soundstage from a stereo pair of speakers
Wide sweet spot
Easy to perceive subtle details; allows users to work with more confidence and more quickl.
Boundary EQ
A speaker's given position in a space can drastically change its frequency response. Happily, most of the common positions are fairly predictable and easily corrected. Kali's team came up with boundary compensation EQ settings at the Village Recorder in Los Angeles to help you get the optimum sound for where you need to put your speakers. Combined with the LF and HF trims, this will ensure that the speakers sound their best no matter what room you're mixing in. The LP-UNF has boundary EQ settings for placing the speakers:
On stands
On a desk, away from walls,
On a desk, against a wall,
On a desk, on speaker stands, away from walls,
On a desk, on speaker stands, against a wall
On a recording desk with rack units, away from walls,
On a recoding desk with rack units, against a walls
Benefits:
Monitors will sound as neutral as possible in a variety of different settings
Users do not need to buy expensive outboard gear to get their monitors to sound accurate
Users can mix in rooms that are not ideal mixing environments
4.5-Inch High Excursion Woofer
Bass on the LP-UNF is delivered by a by a woofer with a larger magnet and larger voice coil than any comparable speaker on the market. This gives you more accurate bass response that extends lower, so you can dial in exactly the low end sound you need.Nothing is over-represented, but the bass that is present on your track will come through with clarity and punch.
Benefits:
Accurate low end to the bottom of the frequency response
Reliable response allows for mixes that will translate well to other systems.
1-Inch Textile Dome Tweeter
The LP-UNF uses the same 1-Inch textile dome tweeter that Kali uses in our larger LP- and IN-Series speakers. This tweeter gives smooth high frequency response that is not fatiguing to work on over long periods. Transients and other HF material are crips and clear without being over-represented.
The integrated power amp provides clean power with very low self-noise to the system. At arm’s length, you will not hear noise from the LP-UNF’s electronics at all. The digital amplifier also houses the DSP that Kali is using to control the system, which includes the loudspeaker tuning, the limiter circuit, and the user-selectable boundary and EQ presets.
Benefits:
Accurate, clean amplification
Low Amplifier self-noise
Precise tuning for desktop use
Limiter to keep the speaker safe
User-selectable presets.
Reliable power
Low heat generation
Low Noise Port Tube
The LP-UNF uses a fluid dynamics-derived port tube for clean, punchy bass with very low noise from the port tube.
Benefits:
Extended bass response
Port tube does not add to noise floor
Air leaving the port tube is neither heard nor felt
